24 Doors – Leek’s Live Advent Calendar : Access Information
24 Doors takes place from 1st to 24th December 2024 4pm-6.30pm each day (4pm-7pm on 10th December & 4pm-5pm on 24th December) across various venues in Leek.
Below is access information for each door – details will be added each day along with the exact location of the door when it is revealed in the morning on the online calendar.
All doors are wheelchair accessible unless otherwise stated.
1st December
Wow Hub, Bank House, St Edward Street, Leek, ST13 5DS
Audiences enter the Wow Hub and engage in mindful activity. Activity at this door includes an amplified natural soundscape, lighting and projection. Audiences will exit through a cobbled street next to the Wilkes Head, though you can leave through the front door if required. No dogs.
2nd December
Westwood College, Westwood Park Drive, Leek, ST13 8NP
Parking available at the bus park, or next to the New College reception if disabled. Audiences will walk up to the college from the car park through a dimly lit path (unless in the disabled parking). Then audiences will enter the building and observe a performance. Lighting and amplified sounds will be used. Below for the walking path to the site, ordered row 1 left to right, then row 2 left to right.
3rd December
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Cruso Street, Leek, ST13 8BW
Audiences will travel up a ramp into the building to observe a performance with amplified sounds and lighting.
4th December
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Stockwell Street, Leek, ST13 6DH
Audiences will watch a performance with amplified sound.
5th December
Yugen Yoga Studio, London Street, Leek, ST13 5JY
There is a small step into the building, where there will be a live band with loud music, and lighting in a cosy space. There is a small corridor so navigating with prams may be challenging.
6th December
Den Engel, 11 Stanley Street, Leek ST13 5HG
Entry is through a cobbled courtyard with uneven floor. There is a small step to get inside where there will be amplified sound, lighting and smoke machine. There will be BSL interpretation.
7th December
Duck Feathers, 38-40 Stockwell Street, Leek ST13 6DS
There are two steps up into the venue. A ramp will be provided. Inside there will be a binaural audio experience with eye masks. This is a compact space so navigating with prams may be challenging. No dogs.
8th December
The Silk House Hotel, 64 St Edwards Street, Leek, ST13 5DL
There will be BSL interpretation. Audiences will enter the venue to participate in the activity. There are two steps up into the venue, and the activity is downstairs in the basement. There will be a ramp to support access, and the performance can be moved upstairs if needed. Activity at this door includes amplified music and lighting. No dogs.
9th December
Brough Nicholson Mill, Cross Street, Leek, ST13 6BL
Audiences will go up a steady ramp to knock on the door. There will be amplified sounds.
10th December
Buxton & Leek College, Union Street, Leek, ST13 6DP
Audiences will view the activity from the pavement area.
11th December
Foxlowe Arts Centre, Stockwell Street, Leek, ST13 6AD
Use the pedestrian crossing outside White Hart tea room. Audiences will enter the venue to participate in the activity. Ramped access to the rear of the venue. Activity in the back room will involve lights and circus performances before having a go activity on circus equipment. No dogs.
12th December
Leek Scout Hut, Fowlchurch Road, Leek, ST13 6AX
Audiences will walk down a path to knock on a door. There will be live music and lighting.
13th December
The Old Grammar School,1 Clerk Bank, Leek, ST13 5HB
Use the pedestrian crossing outside White Hart tea room. There is a small step to get into the building. There will be a ramp provided. There is live music and lighting.
14th December
John Hall Wellness Gardens, Fowlchurch Road, Leek, ST13 6BH
Audiences will enter the gardens to participate in the activity. There are natural pathways and some uneven surfaces. Activity at this door includes amplified soundscape, lighting, projection and snow machine.
15th December
Mind, 38 Derby Street, Leek, ST13 5AB
Audiences will observe from the pavement.
16th December
Leek Bus Station, Cromwell Terrace, Leek, ST13 5JW
Audiences will get on a bus. There are 4 steps up to the bus and it isn’t accessible for wheelchair users. There will be live music. Dogs are allowed on the bus.
17th December
Leek Building Society Conference Centre, Strangman Street, Leek, ST13 5DQ
The conference centre can be accessed on Strangman Street, which runs along the side of the head office building on St Edward Street. There is step free access into the building. There will be a calm and cosy environment inside where conversation and crafting will take place.
18th December
Leek Library, Nicholson Institute, Stockwell Street, Leek, ST13 6DW
Audiences will enter the venue to view the activity. There is ramp and lift access at the venue. Activity at this door includes lighting and live music. No dogs.
19th December
The Watson Centre Southbank Street, Leek, ST13 5LF
Audiences will enter the venue through either a ramp or steps, view the activity, then leave via a ramp. Activity at this door includes loud sound (drummers) and lighting. No dogs.
20th December
St Edward’s Church, Stockwell Street, Leek, ST13 6AB (side door)
Use the pedestrian crossing outside White Hart tea room. As you approach the church from Market Square there is step free access on the right, or as you walk further down Stockwell Street there is stepped access up to the church. There is a path around the church to the side door on the west side of the building. There is a small threshold to step over at two doors before observing the performance. There is then step free access out of the building. No dogs. There will be BSL interpretation.
21st December
Scabetti, St George’s Works, 44 Britannia Street, Leek, ST13 5EL
This is an outdoor event with live music. There will be a calm, cosy space away from stimulating dancing, music and bright lights. There will be BSL interpretation.
22nd December
Rooftop Studios, Brook Street, ST13 5JE
There is step free access. Audiences will observe the performance with lighting and amplified music. No dogs.
23rd December
Leek Hockey Club, Macclesfield Road, Leek, ST13 8LD
Audiences will enter the venue to observe the performance. There is a step at the entrance of the venue. There is wheelchair access via a ramp at the fire exit but no disabled toilets. Uneven surfaces on venue car park. Activity at this door involves lighting and amplified sounds. There will be BSL interpretation. No dogs.
24th December – Community Carols on Christmas Eve
Leek Town Football Club, F. Ball Community Stadium, Macclesfield Road, Leek, ST13 8LD
Audiences will enter the outdoor venue via the tunnel. Activity at this door includes live music and lighting. There will be BSL interpretation.
* Unless specified, lighting is stationary spotlights lighting up the scene or performers, no moving lights.
Travel / parking
There is no parking at the venues unless specified. You can find details of public car parks in Leek here (free after 3.30pm). If required, please drop off passengers at the venue and then park up.
Accessibility
All doors are wheelchair accessible unless otherwise stated.
At each door there will be ear defenders available. There will also be fidget spinners available too. Please ask the volunteers if either of these would support your access to the door.
BSL interpretation
We aim for the doors to be accessible. Many of the doors can be experienced without sound or language. There will be BSL interpretation available on doors 6, 8, 20, 21, 23 and 24.
