Colours of the Moorlands – Ongoing
A new Knit Network project
Many colours. Many hands. One connected Moorlands community.
All over the Moorlands
We’re excited to launch Colours of the Moorlands, a brand new community knitting project, and we’d love you to be part of it.
The Staffordshire Moorlands Knit Network is bringing people together to create a large-scale collaborative blanket that will tour the Moorlands from Autumn 2026. Inspired by the rich colours of our landscape, architecture and heritage, the project invites everyone from complete beginners to lifelong knitters to contribute a single knitted square.
Each square will be stitched together with hundreds of others, and the colour of your wool will represent your age, from 5 to 105, creating a beautiful visual snapshot of our community across generations.
Free how-to guides and knitting packs (in specially selected Moorlands-inspired colours) are available to collect from locations across the district. Once you’ve made your square, simply return it to a collection point and become part of the final artwork.
Pick up and drop off points:
- OUTSIDE Market Stall, Leek Butter Market
- Biddulph Town Hall
- Redeezine, Cheadle
We’d also love support to take this project into schools, care homes, libraries and other community spaces across the Moorlands. If you can help, or would like to find out more, please get in touch.
This project is funded by the UK Government and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
