Are you 16–25? Then as part of Leek Textile Week, join us to make your own animated paper characters and your own jointed paper puppet for stop-motion animation.  How cool is that!

In this workshop, stop-motion animator and projection artist Amber Cooper-Davies will demonstrate how she makes characterful puppets for her films using paper and wire joints, inspired by the traditional techniques of animators like Lotte Reineger and Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin of Smallfilms. Amber will help you develop and make your character, as well as getting you started with stop-motion animation, using the free app Stop Motion Studio (available on android or ios) so that you can bring your character to life.

An instruction booklet will be provided so that you can continue your animation journey after the session.

Where: John Hall Wellness Gardens, Leek, Staffs, ST13 6BH.

Time: 12:45 pm – 14:45 pm

Running from 23-29 September 2024, Leek Textile Week will comprise a series of community-focused activities, talks and exhibitions that celebrate the town’s rich textile heritage. We will weave threads of the past into the present, spinning new connections with artisans from India and beyond whose knowledge helped transform the local industry.

Leek Textile Week is funded through Arts Council England’s National Lottery Project Grants, the Creative People & Places programme and the Historic England’s Everyday Heritage Grants: Celebrating Working Class Histories.
