OUTSIDE, the Creative People & Places project for the Staffordshire Moorlands, is looking for two enthusiastic, committed individuals to help support the production of a project celebrating the life of local pioneering astronomer Mary Blagg in Cheadle in spring 2024. Details of the two roles – Production Assistant & Event Assistant follow below.

Role: Production Assistant

Fee: £3,500

Position: Freelance/Temporary approx 22 days

Timescale: March/April 2024 (must be available between 1st March & 10th April)

Location: Cheadle, Staffordshire

Job Overview

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, committed individual to help support the production of a project celebrating the life of local pioneering astronomer Mary Blagg in Cheadle in Spring 2024. The role will involve supporting the project manager to deliver a successful programme of arts and science events to compliment the exhibition of Luke Jerram’s award winning art installation Museum of the Moon. We’re looking for someone who is responsible, practical, keen to learn and flexible. Your duties will involve the day to day management of the exhibition, recruiting, training and managing volunteers, artist liaison, admin including data capture, social media marketing and production support. 

Key Responsibilities

1. Undertaking day to day on-site production

2. Contributing to marketing for OUTSIDE social media and website

3. Recruiting, training and managing volunteers

4. Liaising with a wide range of stakeholders including artists, sponsors, press, local businesses and community groups, council etc

5. Supporting evaluation, data capture and monitoring

6. To undertake any other duties as determined by the project manager

Person Specification

1. Able to demonstrate key skills required of all OUTSIDE staff

  • Positive work ethic, dependable and conscientious
  • Flexibility, use of initiative and good time management
  • Collaborative and outcome focussed
  • Working to plans, policies & procedures
  • Applies equality of opportunity

2. Excellent organisational skills, including time management and prioritising

3. Committed to the aims of the project, i.e. to deliver a shared creative experience celebrating the life of local pioneering astronomer Mary Blagg

4. Experience of volunteering or working with volunteers

5. Strong people skills, including the ability to engage and work inclusively with a diverse range of people from a variety of backgrounds

6. Confidence in capturing content for social media

7. Willingness to work evenings and weekends
