The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War – Dec 2025

A thread through history

Great Wood Community Hall, Tean, 3rd-30th December 2025

The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War wool art exhibition is coming to the Staffordshire Moorlands!

The stunning exhibition of knitted and crocheted wartime scenes will be on display at Great Wood Community Hall in Tean from 3rd to 30th December.

Britain at War examines how Britain navigated World War II from the declaration of war on 3 September 1939 to VE Day on 8 May 1945. This includes significant events such as D-Day, the King’s Speech, The Blitz, the bombing of major cities, Britain coping with the war – the Home Guard, the Women’s Land Army, rationing, and much more. The 3D wool art display will feature 80 panels by the time it reaches the Moorlands this December. In addition, there will be life-size knitted displays representing real people such as army leaders and land girls.

Founder Tansy Forster and her fellow knitters and crocheters from across the UK and beyond are creating the new installation. This follows on from the great success of The Longest Yarn, an 80 metre wool art depiction of the D-Day landings, which toured the UK last year and is currently touring America.
