The Longest Yarn 2

The stunning exhibition of knitted and crocheted wartime scenes will be on display at Great Wood Community Hall in Tean from 1st to 30th December. Britain at War examines how Britain navigated World War II from the declaration of war on 3 September 1939 to VE Day on 8 May 1945. The 3D wool art display will feature 80 panels by the time it reaches the Moorlands this December.

Who is The Longest Yarn 2 for?  

The Longest Yarn 2 is suitable for all ages. Those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult over 18.

How long does it last?  

A visit usually lasts around 60-90 minutes. If there are no queues you are welcome to stay and relax longer. At busy times, we may place a time limit of 90 minutes on your visit to allow as many people as possible to experience The Longest Yarn 2.

When does it take place?   

From Monday 1st December to Tuesday 30th December 2025. Three days are reserved for school group bookings only – 3rd, 9th, 15th December. The exhibition will be closed 24th, 25th, 26th December.

Please note there is only accessible (blue badge holders) parking at the venue.

Do I need a ticket?  

Yes. Tickets for The Longest Yarn 2 are issued online in advance for free. We recommend booking tickets in advance HERE. If you are not able to book online, Great Wood Community Hall and Cheadle Library will support with ticket booking.

This event is free but we welcome donations. Donations received will be split between Great Wood Community Hall for upkeep of the hall, The Longest Yarn for the exhibition, and OUTSIDE to bring more events like this to the Staffordshire Moorlands.

Can I come without a ticket? 

Walk ups will be allowed entry if there are tickets available for the slot, however a booking will need to be made by our volunteers/staff on the door.

Can I bring my dog? 

Yes, well behaved dogs on leads will be admitted.

Will The Longest Yarn 2 come back to Staffordshire Moorlands on future dates?   

There are currently no plans to programme the The Longest Yarn 2 again but you can follow thelongestyarn.com to find out about future The Longest Yarn exhibitions nationally and OUTSIDE (outsidearts.org) to find out about future events and activities across the Staffordshire Moorlands.

 

Accessibility

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?  

Yes, Great Wood Community Hall is suitable for wheelchairs.

Are guide dogs allowed inside? 

Yes

Is it suitable for those who are deaf or hard of hearing?   

Yes. The Longest Yarn 2 is predominantly visual and can be enjoyed by those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Is it suitable for those with a visual impairment?   

The Longest Yarn 2 is a highly visual installation that uses colour and light, though those with a visual impairment are welcome to explore the installation to enjoy the atmosphere. If you have a visual impairment and would like to attend, please make yourself known to a member of staff on arrival who can provide you with some more information and guide you.

Flashing lights, seizure warning and sensory warning  

The Longest Yarn 2 has no flashing lights.

Is there seating inside of the hall?   

Yes, there are chairs available to visitors.

Is there a disabled access toilet nearby?  

Yes, there is a disabled access toilet in the hall. Stewards will be happy to direct you.

I am a blue badge holder, where should I park?  

Accessible parking for blue badge holders only is available at the hall.

Do you have wheelchairs or mobility scooters on site for public use?  

No, we do not, so you will need to provide your own mobility aids. The site is accessible for all wheelchairs.

 

Tickets

Where are my tickets?  

Your tickets will be emailed to you as soon as you book. Please check your spam/junk folder if you cannot find them. Please download your ticket in advance to your mobile device for scanning on the day.

Can I collect tickets from the box office?  

No, there is no collect at box office for this event. You will receive your ticket via email. Please download your ticket in advance to your mobile device for scanning on the day.

I have not received my email confirmation, is this normal?   

No, if you haven’t received an email confirming your ticket reservation, please send us details of your booking and when you booked your tickets. Please email hello@outsidearts.org

Will my tickets be posted out to me?  

No, your tickets will be an e-ticket, so please download your tickets in advance to your mobile device for scanning on the day. If you cannot find your e-tickets please email hello@outsidearts.org

I have lost or mislaid my tickets, can I get duplicates?  

Tickets will be emailed out, but if you cannot find your tickets, please contact us at hello@outsidearts.org with your booking reference and we will be able to update you or replace your tickets if required. You may be required to prove your identity and/or proof of booking.

What time should we arrive?  

Advance ticket holders must arrive 10 minutes before the time indicated on the ticket. A small queue should still be expected.

Can I just show my e-mail confirmation to enter the event?  

All tickets will be scanned at the entrance and visitors must have a e-ticket with a unique bar code. Valid tickets will be accepted in all formats, whether printed or on mobile phone.

Is there a waiting list for tickets if they sell out?   

No, we are not able to add names to a waiting list when the tickets are sold out.

 

Travel

Where can we park?  

There will be NO PARKING at Great Wood Community Hall (except for a limited amount of accessible spaces for blue badge holders only) and the surrounding roads are unsuitable for event parking.

We advise you to use the nearest public car park: Old Road Car Park 

From there it is a 10 minute walk to the hall.

Photography & filming

You are welcome to take photographs and videos of The Longest Yarn 2 for personal use. Please be mindful of other visitors.

Photography and videography by OUTSIDE will be taking place during the event. By booking tickets, ticket holders consent to being photographed/filmed to promote OUTSIDE and its projects.

Can I bring a pushchair? 

Yes, and there will be buggy parking in the hall.

Are there toilets available?  

Yes, the hall has toilet facilities, including baby changing facilities.

Will there be food available?  

The hall café may be open for refreshments.

Is alcohol permitted?  

No alcohol is permitted.
